Yes, that is the version od StorySplitter I'm using. Didn't realize it was created in 2006. The Break Text Thread script does not work with endnotes if you read the limitations. Thanks anyway. Adobe will need to create one (if enough people ask!), or someone who knows how to update StorySplittter to be compatible with INDD 2025 going forward.

I compose long complex books that have both footnotes and endnotes, and I need the ability to restart the foot- and endnote numbering at the beginning of each new chapter. A while back when I posted to this forum, I was able to download a script called StorySplitter.jsx that enabled me to restart foot- and endnote numbering at the beginning of each new chapter. The script "SplitStory.jpx" that comes with Indesign DOES NOT perform the same function and will split text on ALL pages. StorySplitter.jsx script no longer functions with INDD 2025. Can anyone please supply an update to StorySplitter or a workaround? If so, thank you!

Many thinks for your detailed reply. I tried your solution first before deciding to post my question, but then I thought "there has to be a better way," I must be missing something in the app since it was "reorganized". You would think that for $60/month to use Adobe apps they would have thought of this split issue already. The person below offered his solution for a mere $40—nope. Thanks again, Gary.

Yes, I was referring to the Pages panel menu, which as far as I know, is the only panel displaying page thumbnails. Sometimes my projects require a number of Parent (former Master) pages. Sometimes Adobe tweaks certain functions so they don't work as they normally had for years. A few years back, they removed the Adjust Layout from the Margins & Columns dialog and was a real hair-puller until outcry from users forcced them to restore it. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!"

I think I was clear. There was a bug in my v19.3 that prevented me from manually adjusting the order of thumbnail pages in the flyout menu. I updated to v19.5 and it resolved the problem. You can click on the thumbnail name and move it to reposition it to another spot in the sequence of Parents.

For some reason this was not working so I updated Indesign to 19.5 and it worked the way it's supposed to. Thanks.

You used to be able to click on a page thumbnail and drag it to a different place in the flyout menu order. Now when you click on the thumbnail, Indesign want to apply the contents of the thumbnail to another thumbnail, but it does not move. What is the workaround to simply change the order of the page thumbnails? Thanks!

The progress bar appears but takes several minutes before showing any progress. Tou get the spinning beachball and it just churns and churns. When it finally shows progress happening, the import goes quickly. It seems to have a diff time reading the Word doc or something.

Over the past several weeks, I've experienced sometimes painfully long (5-15+ minutes) waits before a Word doc can be imported to Indesign. All of my work is creating books (most in excess of 240 pages), so Word docs come in many forms: coded (some to match Indesign) and uncoded, footnotes or endnotes, etc. Average word count in the docs is usually 75K or more. While some Word docs can be more complicated than others, I have never had this issue before. I have also had to force quit Indesign when the time to wait for import exceeds my patience. Is it due to the version of Word I am importing or what else could be causing this? It is happening on virtually every book I do.

I've been a daily Indesign user for over 15 years and have not seen any new options for paragraph rule designs offered over the many version updates. Is there an extension or add-on to Indesign that can offer more creative rule options? Is Adobe working on this for future version releases?

The problem was resolved by returning to the previous version of InDesign. 14.0 version is too buggy for my taste and needs. GREG [ private informations removed by moderator --> https://forums.adobe.com/docs/DOC-3731 ]

After a recent upgrade to 14.0, Indesign has been finicky about allowing import of images and/or text files that I've never has an issue with before. I think this version is buggy. With the new monthly subscription increase to $53/month, I would expect more. This problem is doing nothing but seriously limiting my productivity and deadlines. I'm going to try to downgrade to the previous version for the time being and hope that Adobe resolves this problem quickly.

I just upgraded to the new 2019 Acrobat Pro DC. When selecting document edits in the Comments panel, the background of the active comment is in a light gray screen. My previous versions of Acrobat displayed selected comments in a light color, which made them easier to read and locate when working on a document that has hundreds of comments. I am not able to change the gray screen of the comment background to a color. Is there a way to change the gray to a color? Thanks.

Obiwan: I've had so much going on I haven't had a chance to respond or test your suggestion. I appreciate you looking into this further and hop to test it sometime on another job. Got almost a dozen books in the works this week...

Case in point for soft returns... Not my choice, but the client's wishes for aesthetics. There's no way I have time to use No Break in these circumstances, which I know are excessive. Major headings are another story...

I have book projects where MANY, MANY selective line breaks are needed (requested by client proofers/editors/designers) for aesthetic reasons. If NO Break had a simple key command to execute, I would use it more. It is not an option where time-saving is concerned.

IT WAS THE SOFT RETURN! I've had this issue before with a soft return adding an extra space [sometimes] in the header, but never at the end, always where the return occurs. After trying ALL of your suggestions (ad infinitum), this last one worked. (Unfortunately, this job is on deadline and I had to manually paste in ALL of the problematic headers last night. This book has multiple paging templates, so I took the fail-safe route to keep on schedule.) Thanks to all who tried to help with this! It's one for the books. I'm not new at this kind of problem solving, so even for me it was very frustrating. Obi-wan, Chad, Barb—thanks for sticking it out.

OK, so I got it to work, almost. Now the problem is still a pesky space that falls between the last letter and the ®. Believe me, this erroneous space is not on the title or the master page running head, screenshots attached for verification. I've noticed this anomaly with INDD (13.0.1) before when it didn't make a difference, but this time it's working against me. Electronic voodoo—bah.

Thanks Barb. It's still not working. I have the chapter titles styled twice: first as a para, then as a character. I need to have offsets above and below for the title, hence the para style. ® is still full size even with correct use of symbol, plus there's a space between the title and ®. Not sure why this doesn't work. Frustrating.

Yes. Para style for chapter title and char style for the ®. I will try your way shortly but have another fire to put out now! Thanks!

Thanks, Barb. I was in the process of trying something similar, with 2 variables, but for some reason, the header adds a letterspace after the last character (not in actual chapter title it represents). This adds an erroneous space between the header and the ®, so it's not working. Do both variables have to be Char style or can the first be a Para style?

I have a book that has running heads with an automated text variable that picks up the chapter title on every righthand page. The chapter titles have an ® that does not translate as a superscript in the running head. Is there a GREP style or something I can add that will correct the symbol size and positioning in the running header? See example below. Thanks for any and all help.

I just noticed that the items in my control panel have switched sides. The Font control items, etc used to be on the left side, and the Paragraph control items used to be on the right, and suddenly switched positions after I relaunched the app yesterday. Also, all of the items I normally show in the control panel are not visible unless I extend the window to almost the full width of my 27" monitor.
